Act of Donation in Louisiana
Gifting a Vehicle the Right Way Without the Paperwork Stress
An Act of Donation allows you to legally transfer ownership of a vehicle to another person without selling it. This is commonly used between family members and must be completed correctly to be accepted by the Louisiana OMV.
Clearview Auto Title & Notary helps ensure your Act of Donation is prepared, notarized, and processed properly, so the transfer goes through smoothly the first time.
If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies as a donation or requires a different title transfer, we’ll help you determine the right path.
How an Act of Donation Works at Clearview
Step 1: Determine the Donation Type
You need to confirm the following:
- Is this an Act of Donation
In-State with both parties present?
- Is this an Act of Donation
Out-of-State with only the donee present?
- The ACTUAL VALUE of the donated vehicle. DO NOT put $0 or $1. (The NADA value will not affect the taxes/registration.)
This step helps ensure the correct form and process are used.
Step 2: Gather the Required Documents
- A completed Act of Donation form.
Download Act of Donation Form Here.
- Donor and Donee must have their
signature notarized on the Act of Donation form.
Clearview offers Notary Services.
- Bring the vehicle title and valid photo ID for all required parties. If there are name changes or special circumstances, we’ll let you know what additional documentation is needed.
- Other forms for out-of-state Act of Donation and miscellaneous other act of donation forms can be found in our Help Center here.
